This proposal presents a direct output voltage (VOUT) charging and discharging (DVCD) control scheme and adaptive switching frequency (ASF) control scheme for improving load transient response and power conversion efficiency (PCE) of reconfigurable switched-capacitor (SC) converters. ASF control scheme enables the reconfigurable SC converter to track optimum VCRs based on the output load current (IOUT). Removing the VOUTsensing time of conventional VCR feedback networks enables the converter to connect VOUT directly to the input supply voltage (VIN) or ground during the load-transient response. The proposed interface is implemented with a reconfigurable series-parallel SC converter, which regulates a 1.05–1.45 V of VOUT with a 1.8 V VIN. The reconfigurable series-parallel SC converter with the proposed control scheme achieves a peak PCE of 80.2% at 1 mA of output load current and maximum output power of 3.7 mW. |
