In this proposal, a switchable multi-band cellular RF receiver design for inter- and intra-band carrier aggregation are presented. This is mainly for supporting advanced-LTE cellular applications. The proposed single-ended receiver architecture can fully support both narrow-band and wideband multiple-channel RF signals for both inter- and intra-band carrier aggregation with high performance and low DC current consumption. To achieve this design object, a different low-noise amplifier topology needs to be employed to receivers in order to achieve different bandwidth handling capability without performance degradation given by matching condition. To realize the wideband characteristic from the low-noise amplifier, two architectures can be merged with little gain and noise performance degradation. One receiver architecture will utilize narrow-band common-source amplifiers with a inductive degeneration, which is very popular approach for both power and noise matching. Second receiver architecture will be a wideband low-noise amplifier formed by the type of inverter to boost the tranconductance of the amplifier. The current-reusing techniques will be applied to both designs for lower power consumption. Moreover, the proposed design will support up to 5 carrier components with little performance degradation compared to a single carrier operating mode. This propose design will be implemented by Samsung 65nm RFCMOS process. The design will be operated with a nominal supply voltage of 1.2V and its frequency range is from 700 MHz to 3600 MHz. |
