High step-down DC-DC converters have become increasingly essential with the rapid expansion of big data and cloud computing. However, conventional buck converters struggle to deliver optimal performance due to their extremely small duty cycle. This paper presents a novel DC-DC topology that integrates a hybrid Dickson converter with a dual-inductor structure. The proposed design minimizes inductor DC resistance (DCR) losses while achieving a wide voltage conversion ratio (VCR). Implemented in a 180nm BCDMOS process, the hybrid converter is designed to support output power up to 20 W. It offers efficiency comparable to switched-capacitor converters while maintaining precise voltage regulation across a broad conversion range. Simulation results for a high voltage input demonstrate a peak efficiency of 94% at a 5V, 1.5A output. |
