Abstract - In this paper, millimeter-wave dual-band, dual-polarization 4-steam MIMO receiver in a 28-nm CMOS process are explained. Dual-band and dual-polarization transmission utilizes dual channels and orthogonal polarization modes to support simultaneous independent data streams on each two frequency channels, which quadruples the effective channel capacity. The proposed receiver uses four receive chains with a single antenna, thus achieving 4x higher communication bits/symbol than a single-channel, single-polarization receiver. At this transmission, cross-modulation and cross-polarization effects limit the signal-to-noise ratio of the dual-band, dual-polarization transmission. To mitigate this effect, a cross-polarization canceler is presented. The dual-band, dual-polarization receiver consists of four two low noise amplifier–down-conversion mixer chains with the cross-polarization canceler. Dual-band, dual-polarization receiver with cross-polarization canceler is expected to achieve 28.16 Gb/s throughput at 5.3 pJ/bit efficiency and 16-quadrature amplitude modulation of single-carrier signaling. |
