Ambient energy harvesting has emerged as a promising solution for powering low-power electronic devices, with triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) gaining significant attention due to their ability to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy. However, the inherently low current and high internal impedance of TENGs limit their direct application in practical systems. In this work, a switched-capacitor-based energy harvesting system is proposed for multiple segmented TENGs mounted on a rolling wheel, where the TENG units operate sequentially in a round-robin manner to generate continuous power. The proposed system employs a novel switched-capacitor network to effectively combine the outputs of multiple TENGs, enhancing the overall power extraction. A mode-selection mechanism is introduced to optimally configure capacitors in series and parallel based on the operating phase of each TENG. Additionally, a low-drop diode equivalent (LDDE)-based rectifier with a bias-flip technique is utilized to minimize rectification losses and improve energy conversion efficiency. To further enhance performance, a GaN-based buck converter using EPC8002 switches is implemented, leveraging their ultra-low onresistance to reduce switching losses. The system also incorporates maximum power point tracking (MPPT), zerocurrent sensing (ZCS), and adaptive control circuits to ensure efficient energy harvesting. The proposed system demonstrates improved power output and efficiency compared to conventional series and parallel TENG configurations, where the TENGs are sequentially operated on surfaces. |
