A pulse-on-demand resistance-to-digital sensing interface is presented for compact and energy-efficient tactile applications. The proposed architecture directly converts resistance into an output pulse width using a pulsed supply voltage, enabling clock-free operation with a reduced I/O pad count. Implemented using digital cells, the design integrates a 64-channel array and achieves a compact structure with low area overhead per channel. Designed in a 28-nm CMOS process, the proposed circuit occupies an active area of 203.4 μm² with two I/O pads per sensing channel and supports a wide sensing range from 1 kΩ to 1.2 MΩ. Post-layout simulation results demonstrate a highly linear response with an R2 of 0.9997, a maximum conversion time of 1.48 μs, and a power consumption of 28 μW per channel. |
