In the design, we produce a power management system with high efficiency buck DC-DC converter for switch-mode Li-ion battery charger. To achieve a high efficiency over a wide load range of current (ILOAD), the buck converter enters a power saving pulse-frequency modulation (PFM) technique at light load currents. At medium load, to solve PFM mode tradeoff between efficiency and output ripple, PSM mode is proposed. This buck converter features an automatic mode change between pulse-width modulation (PWM) and PFM, PSM depending on the load current level. Additionally, the circuit consists of the clock generator operated at 1.1 MHz switching frequency, zero current detector, high-side PMOS current sensing circuit. |
